I started my jewelry making in
college, at The Maryland Institute of Art, where I majored in
Crafts, Jewelry/Metal being my main focus. My jewelry design won
scholarships and
awards through out college. I graduated in 1985. After college my
husband, Jeff Hall, and I moved to Loudon County, Virginia, and
started renovating what is now Silverwood Farm and Studio.
Silverwood combines Jeff Hall’s sculpture studio, my jewelry and
graphics business, and a pinto sporthorse breeding farm. I took a
hiatus from jewelry making to concentrate on my horse business,
computer graphics, my daughter and renovating our home and farm. In
the last 10 years I had an incredible yearning to get back to my
roots of crafts and making jewelry. I have done it slowly but
surely, and am reveling in creating wearable art again.
My work combines precious metals,
stones, plastics, glass or whatever shiny object catches my eye. My
designs are contemporary, combining both organic and geometric
forms, usually with unusual and colorful stones, glass or found
materials. I consider each one of my pieces a little piece of fine
art. I like making pieces that are different and unique but still
very wearable. The majority of my pieces are pendants, necklaces,
and earrings, though I do occasionally make other items. My main
focus in the past was fabricating metals to create my designs. In
2004 I discovered a new medium called Precious Metal Clay®, which is
comprised of either pure silver or 22K gold. This material has
inspired many new works. I enjoy exploring this new medium and
combining it with my other techniques and materials. In 2006 I
received my PMC® (Precious Metal Clay®) Certification. I strive
always to improve on my designs and skills and to make jewelry that
is creative, unusual, elegant and fun to wear.
